Established in 1997 by Kevin Rendell and Zaffar Ahmed, Sonographers Medical has successfully grown by delivering its services with integrity and professionalism, and is now firmly established as one of the leading providers of staffing solutions in the country. With a background in ultrasound and being clinical healthcare consultants ourselves; we know and understand the trials and tribulations of both the locums and the employing department. We can therefore offer advice, not just with regard to locum placement, but also on a whole host of other professional issues.
Sonographers Medical are registered with Crown Commercial Service, as a registered supplier in Allied Healthcare Professionals AHP & HSS categories, guaranteeing both the quality and the cost effectiveness of our service.
Crown Commercial Service is the national procurement partner for UK public services and is an Executive Agency of the Office of Governement Commerce in the Treasury, and Government procurement services.
Sonographers Medical now provide placements for all Allied Healthcare Practitioners and Health Science Staff, from the Shetland Islands to the Channel Islands, across the breadth of the United Kingdom.

Sonographers Medical has been awarded a place on the new National Clinical Staffing Framework for the NHS.
Being awarded a place on Lots 1 & 2 of the National Clinical Staffing Framework, developed for the NHS by the NHS Collaborative Procurement Partnership[1], means that Sonographers Medical can supply temporary staff, permanent staff & fixed term staff to clinical positions in the NHS.
Sonographers Medical successfully underwent an independent audit of our services and met the criteria for providing qualified clinical staff who can give high quality patient care at rates within the pay caps set by the government. These pay caps have been introduced to help the NHS control spiraling agency staffing costs.

The History of Sonographers Medical.
Sonographers Medical was initially established by Kevin Rendell and Zaffar Ahmed in 1997 to provide a superior level of service to locum sonographers, and to private & NHS Trust Hospitals, in the specialist field of locum ultrasound placements. In 1999, as the result of popular demand, services were expanded to include all Allied Healthcare Professionals, locum diagnostic radiographers, therapy radiographers and radiography helpers, physiotherapists and pharmacists.
In 2002, Sonographers Medical expanded to South Africa. Here, Helen Oehler, a South African radiographer herself, acts as our agent, sourcing locums and processing their applications for work in the UK. This has been of huge benefit in streamlining our international recruitment, and assisting South African radiographers towards eligibility to work in the UK.
In 2003, Sonographers Medical were one of the very first agencies to be included on an NHS Agency Framework Agreement, securing our position as a first line supplier of all Allied Health Professionals to the NHS for the following three years.
2004 saw the formation of Sonographers Medical Australia. The Australian branch is run by Angela and Murray Keats. Angela worked as a locum sonographer through Sonographers Medical for two years before returning to Australia to get married and set up the Australian branch. Sonographers Medical Australia provides locum ultrasound and radiography staff throughout Australia, as well as processing applications for Australian healthcare professionals wishing to work in the UK.
In 2005 a similar branch was set up in New Zealand with the establishment of Sonographers Medical New Zealand. The New Zealand arm is run by Sandra and Richard Hellewell. Sandra also worked as a locum Sonographer through Sonographers Medical for two years, before returning to New Zealand to run their own branch of the Sonographers Medical, providing ultrasound and radiography locum staff throughout New Zealand as well as processing applications from professionals wishing to work in the UK.
In 2006, Sonographers Medical was successfully awarded a place on the next NHS PaSA Agency Framework, for the supply of Locum Allied Health Professionals and Health Science Service staff throughout the United Kingdom.
Our continued expansion resulted in the need for new Offices, which we opened in early September 2006 at:

In 2008, Sonographers Medical was successfully awarded a place on the new NHS PaSA Agency Framework, for the supply of Locum Medical staff throughout the United Kingdom
In 2009, Sonographers Medical was successfully awarded a place on the most recent NHS PaSA Agency Framework, for the supply of Locum Allied Health Professionals (AHP) and Health Science Service staff (HSS) throughout the United Kingdom.
In 2014 Sonographers Medical is on all major NHS approved agency contracts, including Crown Commercial Service (CCS), Health Trust Europe (HTE), and the prestigious London Procurement Programme (LPP).
In 2015, Sonographers Medical continues to provide services across the full range of Preferred Supplier agreements, permitting us to place locum staff in all NHS Hospitals across the UK..
In 2016 Sonographers Medical has been awarded a place on the new National Clinical Staffing Framework for the NHS for the supply of AHP/HSS.
In 2019 Sonographers Medical relocates to new purpose built office premises at 525 Green Lane, Ilford, IG3 9RH with an increase in the staff force to provide the highest standard of service across the UK.
